How High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Works

Sonovein®’s High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology is a breakthrough in non-invasive varicose vein treatment, delivering precise, safe, and effective results without the need for incisions, catheters, or general anesthesia. Here's how it works in detail:

The Science Behind HIFU

HIFU technology uses focused ultrasound waves—similar to diagnostic ultrasounds but with higher intensity—to target and treat diseased veins from outside the body. These ultrasound waves converge at a specific focal point, generating thermal energy that causes the vein walls to shrink and seal closed, effectively stopping the reflux that causes varicose veins.

HIFU Treatment step by step

Real-Time Visualization and Control:

The ultrasound imaging integrated into the treatment head allows continuous monitoring of the targeted
vein throughout the procedure. Practitioners can view the vein and surrounding tissue on an intuitive touchscreen interface.

Precision Energy Delivery:

The ultrasound waves are concentrated on a focal point, creating a quick temperature rise on the targeted vein.

Thermal Regulation:

The cooling system, powered by the patented Epack™, circulates cooling fluid to protect surrounding tissues during the procedure.

Sealing the Vein:

The vein collapses under the effect of VTU-generated pressure and seals shut from outside the body — without the need for invasive techniques.

Completion and recovery:

The procedure is repeated along the vein until treatment is complete. Patients remain awake and comfortable throughout and can return to their daily activities shortly after the session.
